Well, we knew our house was old, but it’s pretty interesting to see some evidence. Darren, Rod and David, our framing crew, started to rip siding off of our kitchen wall this week, and they found some newsprint—pages from The People’s Home Journal and Mail Order Monthly Magazine, weathered and beat-up, dated October 1903.
Now I suppose someone could have stuffed old newsprint in their walls, but how old do you think it really was? I bet a lot of stuff was burnt up pretty quickly back then. So maybe they were insulating that wall exactly 104 years ago.
Rod noticed “The Return of Sherlock Holmes” was one of the featured articles. And David found an ad offering a FREE TALKING MACHINE if you bought some jewelry for $3.00. Wow.
